‘The Music in You’ is a true story that takes us back in time to the year 1925, where we meet the vivacious Little Joycee.
Little Joycee’s musical aspirations began when she was four years old, just as the ‘Roaring Twenties’ era abruptly ended due to the Great Depression. As a child, she loved to daydream about her music, and at night would wish upon the Evening Star, praying that her visions of becoming a fine pianist would come true.
From the first moment Little Joycee discovers music, we see her enchanting interpretation of this new magical world. Her story offers children an insight into the progression of the 20th century through the eyes of a young girl growing up.
Little Joycee takes us on her adventures as she uses her childlike know-how, courage, and inner strength to take on challenges throughout her life. Then, while focusing on her musical ambitions, she worked very hard, never gave up, and indeed achieved the future she had always imagined.
For decades, Little Joycee delighted in entertaining others with a wide variety of music, sharing her talents and inspiring generations to discover their “music within.”
This little girl, I am proud to say, grew up to be my mother.
I hope the ‘young’ and the ‘young at heart’ can enjoy relating Little Joycee’s story to their own interests while having fun reading and getting involved with the changes in everyday living, music, and dance over the decades.

The Inspiration Behind
'The Music in You'
Following my mother’s passing in 2021, the emotions and disbelief that I could no longer visit or listen to her playing her piano, hit hard. In the following years, I was compelled to write a story of her musical life. Included are some memories our parents had told in relation to their love of music and the opportunities that came along to share their music with others.
As it happened, our father was also a musician.
‘The Music in You’ started as a small gesture for our family to remember our mother’s great love for music and the music both our parents brought into each of our lives. Somewhere along the way, I felt the need to turn this book into a professionally illustrated story and send it out into the world to hopefully inspire others, or maybe just to enjoy reminiscing about your own life journeys.
Little Joycee always kept her mind working, was ‘sharp as a tack’ and played her piano beautifully up to 95 years of age.
Little Joycee never grew old inside, where it counts.

'The Music in You' has two prominent messages to help guide us in creating a better future for ourselves.
Firstly, to acknowledge the inner strengths we were all born with and use them to make our days brighter and help fulfil our dreams.
Secondly, to learn more about the universal powers that can help each one of us, if we are prepared to look for it.
Because when you work hard to achieve your dreams,
‘Magic’ can happen.
